Acquittal on Appeal on a Charge of Complicity in Bodily Harm

A client of our firm was acquitted on appeal in a case concerning a charge of aiding and abetting an offence of dangerous bodily harm committed jointly by others.

Antonios Ch. Mammis represented him before the Athens Court of Appeal.

The Court of Appeal’s ruling

Following the hearing of the appeal against the first-instance judgment, the court acquitted our client on the grounds of reasonable doubt. It also ordered the return of the bail money deposited during the criminal proceedings.

The outcome highlights the substantive importance of appellate review in criminal cases and of assessing each defendant’s responsibility individually.

For a person facing a criminal charge, a court’s decision has consequences that extend beyond the courtroom. Their defence requires careful preparation, consistency and respect for what is at stake in their case.

This account is based on the operative part of the judgment. Personal details and facts that could identify those involved have been omitted.
